 UNDERSTANDING COMMISSIONS

I have added a page called the "Commission Process" under Ordering Info.  If you've ever wondered what it woud be like, this page explaines in a nutshell how a typical commission might work... It's not that scary.  As long as you are fairly confident about what you want, we can confer, sketch, and collaberate to come up with something great for that special intimate space you have or something you can build a room around.  Questions answered for free.

 What's in a name?

My last name is pronounced rou'-tee. Rhymes with pouty.  It is of German derivation.  Jon or Jack?  My given name is Jon Michael Route but like JFK, I'm usually called by my nick-name, Jack.  Just don't call me late for dinner, yuk, yuk.

Color and Texture

COLOR PALLETTE

The hand-made nature of what I do and processes I use make it impossible to reproduce color precisely. Metal patination is produced with heat from a hand held torch and chemical solutions. Variations come from metal surface condition, heat location and intensity, chemical strengths, methods of application, and time.

Variation is an inherent part of the process, and like the burl of a maple or an inclusion in an emerald I believe it is these unique variations that add excitment and richness to each individual piece of metal and the work as a whole.

TEXTURES

Using hammers, stamps, and dies I have made myself,  textures and designs are either applied by hand or with the aid of a mechanical or hydraulic press.  I do have some size limitations on mechanically produced textures.  Many other textures, patterns and designs are possible.

Please use this color and texture representation as a general guide only.  More colors are possible.
